We are glad you want to get to know our family. We are located in Castalia, Iowa.
Our original barn was built in 1919 and was the inspiration for our logo. We are still using the barn today. We use it to store the hay we feed and the straw we use to bed our cattle.
Our cattle are hand-fed twice a day with corn, hay, and soybeans. We hand feed because this gives us the chance to give the cattle extra attention. By doing this, we can make sure they are getting the proper nutrition, are feeling well, and have minimal food waste. All our cattle are taken care of by our family.
Our farm has the 4th and 5th generations working together. Mike and Ann Buddenberg work full-time on the farm. Their 2 children, Dereck Buddenberg and Lindsey Aschbrenner, each work separate jobs. Dereck has been running his own business since 2008, New Vision Ag Service. He provides soil sampling and fertilizer recommendations to area farmers. Dereck also puts in several hours helping at the farm. Lindsey is working full-time as a chef.
Dereck’s wife, Carrie, works full-time as an accountant at KAR Auto Group. She also takes care of the accounting for New Vision Ag Service and Buddenberg Family Foods. Their 2 daughters, Blair and Bristol are the inspiration for the silhouette in our logo. They both make sure the cats and baby kitties are well attended to, as well as, petting and feeding the cattle. They enjoy any time spent on the farm.
Lindsey and her husband, Jared, help on the farm during the busier times of the year by providing an extra hand. Jared is also a full-time chef. Lindsey and Jared have also been busy taking care of their daughter, Elena. When she is old enough, she will be able to enjoy farm life as well.
On the farm, there is no full-time hired help. The cattle and fieldwork are all taken care of by our family and the occasional helping hands of great neighbors. Our goal is to provide a high-quality and affordable source of meat to you that is Born and Raised in the USA.
